Ms Katie Beck

Katie serves as the Interim Course Director for the Professional Diploma in Tropical Nursing (PDTN) at LSHTM.

Katie leads and educates across multiple institutions, offering post-registration academic and professional development for healthcare workers with a specialized focus on advanced practice and global health. Katie qualified as a registered adult nurse in 2011 and worked in Accident and Emergency, Acute Medicine, and Intensive Care before perusing a career in global and expedition nursing. Katie was International Medical Lead at an INGO for a number of years and continues to provide health, wellbeing and safeguarding advice to a number of organisations in the sector. She is a Lecture in Extreme Medicine at Exeter University, Course Director for MSc Advanced Practice at University of East Anglia, and a member of the Fellowship of Extreme and Wilderness Medicine and Advanced HE. She has an MA in Higher Education Practice, and has particular research interests in the value and ethics of early career international healthcare work experiences.
