Improving health by improving trials: from outcomes to recruitment and back again

Paula Williamson is Professor of Medical Statistics, Director of the MRC North West Hub for Trials Methodology Research (HTMR), Director of the Clinical Trials Research Centre (CTRC), and Head of the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Liverpool. She was an Associate Director of the NIHR Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN) from 2005-2014. Paula is the lead for the European Commission-, MRC- and NIHR-funded COMET (Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials) Initiative. She was appointed as an NIHR Senior Investigator in 2014, and will become Chair of the MRC HTMR Network again in April this year.
Paula’s research has previously been focussed on the development and application of statistical methodology in medicine. Major contributions have been made in the fields of clinical trials methodology, meta-analysis, and in the treatment of epilepsy. More recently Paula has undertaken research around the selection of outcomes for clinical research.
This event is a joint venture between the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine and the Royal Statistical Society.
