Practical issues in trials: Data management in clinical trials
This seminar is the fifth in a series of six seminars organised by the LSHTM Trials Network, addressing the principles and practice of data management in clinical trials.
Steven Robertson, Senior Data Manager in the LSHTM Clinical Trials Unit, will discuss important points for successful data management, including:
- When the data manager should get involved
- Choosing the right system
- Writing clear and concise forms
- Building relationships with collaborators
- The importance of communications and language
- Why procedures matter.
Gertrude Mutonyi, Data Manager, and Ayoub Kakande, Head of Data Management and Archives, both at the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit will then illustrate what good data management looks like in practice using examples from current and recent trials.
Gertrude’s presentation will emphasise:
- Key Trial Documentation relevant to data management
- Basic data checks for a Clinical Trial
- Training and support on data management procedures
- Common data management challenges and how to overcome them.
Ayoub will touch on:
- Database design
- Database Testing & roll out
- Data security and Privacy
- Ethical considerations (GDPR, GCP).
All are welcome to attend. There will be an optional 30-minute Q&A session from 2-2.30pm BST once the main seminar ends (this link will be shared during the webinar).
