Contact Valentina Marino-MelánEducational/professional background
I hold a medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna. During my medical studies I gained international clinical experience in the field of pediatrics, particularly neonatology. I worked for a pediatrician, had the opportunity to engage in voluntary work with children/in a clinic (e.g. in Ghana) and performed pediatric rotations in several different countries (e.g. University of Philadelphia). Currently, I am enrolled in the distance learning MSc Public Health program to broaden my professional horizon, but maintain my flexibility of working and fulfilling family responsibilities.
Research interests or career goals
My research interest lies in the field of maternal and newborn health in low- and middle-income countries. My future goal is to work full-time in this field to usefully apply my medical as well as public health background.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose:
- LSHTM because it is a leading school in the global health field.
- The Public Health program to get a general overview of the field, as I am transitioning from medicine.
- The distance learning program due to its flexibility, but also network of international students from all over the world.
