With over ten years of Global Public Health work experience in clinical nursing, project management, research, policy and strategy, I am a Senior Executive Officer at the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team (UK-PHRST). This is an innovative partnership between the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). I contribute to the management and delivery of this programme, which has a triple mandate of infectious diseases outbreak response, research, and capacity strengthening in low- and middle- income countries. I hold a unique academic background including a MSc Public Health for Global Practice and a Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Nursing from LSHTM. In addition, I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration and Management from The Open University UK, and several other qualifications, including Agile Project Manager license, HIV advanced qualification, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
What I enjoyed most about studying my programme/at LSHTM
One of the most distinctive aspects of the MSc Public Health for Global Practice is the peer-to-peer learning experience, as all students bring valuable professional Global Public Health experience to the programme. During Term 2, I particularly enjoyed collaborating with my peers on project proposal development and applying the appropriate research methods in order to evaluate public health interventions. As well as developing my summer project, which helped me build strong skills in research and data analysis. I chose LSHTM for its outstanding reputation and world-class faculty, and as an alumnus, I am honoured to stay connected through my current work as the team is a joint partnership with LSHTM, as mentioned above. This partnership allows me to remain closely linked to the School, and continue my professional journey with LSHTM.
Research interests or career goals
My research and career goals are centered around advancing sustainability research and policy, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries and vulnerable population groups. I am especially interested in understanding and addressing the health impacts of environmental challenges, such as natural hazards, on populations in regions like the Sahel, where malnutrition is a critical issue. More broadly, I have a deep interest in the intersection of conflict and health, recognizing the vital role these issues play in shaping global health outcomes. My career ambition is to strengthen my Global Public Health capabilities, both in academia and within the UK Civil Service. I aim to strengthen my expertise in conducting and evaluating impactful research, as well as to hone the leadership skills essential for shaping Global Public Health policy and practice.
