Obituary: Elvis Dzelamonyuy Chem
26 January 2022 London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine https://lshtm.ac.uk/themes/custom/lshtm/images/lshtm-logo-black.pngElvis joined LSHTM in 2019, having won a Commonwealth PhD Scholarship to assess the quality of care of antiretroviral treatment adherence services for adolescents living with HIV in Cameroon. He was brilliant, dynamic, and bold in his thinking. He never took shortcuts and was never afraid of a challenge. He was also kind. He helped new PhD students to find their feet and access resources.
He cared deeply about the young people he met and interviewed, and with typical thoroughness and insight he had drafted a paper about the challenges of maintaining researcher objectivity in such circumstances. His work was driven by a determination to make sure adolescents living with HIV had appropriate and high-quality care.
Elvis excelled at making connections with other people and finding common ground. He inspired those around him to do more than they thought they could. He was irreplaceable, and his death is a great loss.
Messages of condolence can be posted on the Tribute to Elvis site.
