MRCG Hosts First of its Kind Workshop on Advancing Research Careers as a Clinician

According to Dr. Esin Nkereuwem "The purpose of the workshop was to equip research clinicians with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful research career. We were delighted to have such a diverse and experienced panel of speakers, and the feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. We are confident that this workshop has helped to inspire and support the next generation of clinician-scientists in the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM."
The event featured insightful presentations from esteemed professionals including VIT Theme Leader Prof. Ed Clarke; Coordinator of Maternal & Neonatal Health Research Dr. Uduak Okomo; Head of Research, Training, and Career Development Prof. Assan Jaye; and Associate Professor and Clinical Epidemiologist Dr. Effua Usuf.
Many attendees expressed their appreciation stating that the event was well-organized and the initiative crucial. Such events not only empower young clinicians with knowledge about advancing in the research world but also foster a sense of belonging within the Unit, helping retain talented personnel.
The organisers believe that the workshop is an important step in promoting research careers among clinicians in The Gambia. It is hoped that the workshop will contribute to building a strong community of clinician scientists able to conduct high-quality research that addresses Gambian health needs.
