RAFT TechTalk: Aedes-borne arbovirus threats in Africa: a closer look at Aedes albopictus and other secondary vectors
Aedes-borne arboviruses such as dengue, chikungunya, zika and yellow fever are an increasing public health threat globally. Dengue alone accounts for an estimated 390 million infections annually. This has caused WHO to initiate a Global Arbovirus Initiative. A recent WHO/TDR survey found “huge gaps” across all WHO AFRO countries in their readiness to confront arbovirus outbreaks. Aedes aegypti is the primary vector in most outbreaks, but the Asian-origin Aedes albopictus is spreading to more and more African countries, and little is known about other indigenous secondary vectors. This webinar hosts a panel of experts who will share insights regarding biology, surveillance and control of these mosquitoes.
