Before starting my MSc Control of Infectious Diseases at LSHTM I completed a BSc in Biochemistry at Imperial College London. In the second year of my degree I completed a dissertation on predicting the next viral pandemic which was when I first became interested in the spread of infectious diseases. I also completed a remote internship with a Fijian charity promoting COVID-19 vaccine uptake, which also gave me a bit of experience in the public health field.
Research interests or career goals
My final year lab project was on investigating metabolic pathways in Trypanosoma brucei, which still remains an interest of mine. I hope to complete a field based research project this year to gain some experience outside of the lab.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose to study at LSHTM because of the amazing reputation it has in the field of public health. MSc Control of Infectious Diseases stood out to me because of the multidisciplinary approach to the course. You can choose from a vast number of modules in the second term, allowing you to tailor your degree to your interests. Another great thing about LSHTM is the collaborative environment, everyone has a different background which makes for really interesting conversations in classes.
