Contact Alina PatraEducational/professional background
I graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my BSc Public Health and minors in global studies, health service administration, and psychology in 2023. I recently did a 5 month internship in cancer epidemiology at Tata Memorial in Mumbai, India before joining LSHTM to study MSc Control of Infectious Diseases (CID)!
Research interests or career goals
I am passionate about control efforts through genetic modification techniques. I hope to eventually do a PhD and go into academia with a focus on how genetic modification/gene editing helps with control efforts in a variety of infectious diseases (specifically in neglected tropical diseases).
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose LSHTM because of its leading advancements in the research of neglected tropical diseases (specifically Chagas disease). Looking through the summer projects that previous LSHTM students were involved in, I was sure that this school was the perfect fit for my interests. I chose to do CID because it not only would help me build up on the public health knowledge I acquired through undergraduate, but also expand my knowledge in infectious disease control in a more lab-based approach through the unique module selections CID students are offered in spring terms.
Any extra information
I am currently one of the two program representatives for CID! If you are interested in being a part of student governance (specifically becoming a program representative, not Students' Representative Council) please don’t hesitate to contact me!
