Contact Varsha JaisimhaEducational/professional background
I graduated with a Master's in Biology from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune in 2022. I worked with the Indian Red Cross, Karnataka State Branch for a year as a consultant. My role involved designing the programme structure to implement public health education in high schools in the state of Karnataka.
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in strengthening immunisation programmes in low-resource settings. My focus is on zero-dose vaccine communities which are communities with children who have not received a single dose of routine vaccinations.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I wanted to shift from studying infectious diseases from a molecular perspective to a population perspective. LSHTM being ranked as #3 for Public Health and #4 for Infectious Diseases was the perfect place to make this transition. I chose the MSc Control of Infectious Diseases because of its multidisciplinary nature which allows me to apply my background in immunology to large-scale disease control programmes.
