Edutainment interventions to prevent violence against women and girls
16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence
This panel highlights the innovative use of edutainment—educational entertainment—as a powerful strategy for preventing violence against women and girls. Featuring four insightful presentations, the session explores how creative media interventions, particularly radio dramas and multi-platform storytelling, can shift harmful social norms and promote gender equality. Presentations include: "Edutainment for Change," which focuses on a radio drama in Tanga, Tanzania, addressing gender-based violence and violence against children; "The Girl in the Middle," which discusses the co-development of a radio drama aimed at changing norms around age-disparate transactional sex in Tanzania; "Together with Gloria," which shares lessons from a radio drama in Uganda that works to prevent intimate partner violence alongside the SASA! Together approach; and "Addressing Gender-Based Violence through Storytelling," which explores MTV Shuga’s multi-platform approach to tackling gender-based violence. These diverse case studies demonstrate the potential of media to engage, educate, and inspire social change, offering key insights into the power of storytelling for violence prevention.
