11 March 2013 London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine https://lshtm.ac.uk/themes/custom/lshtm/images/lshtm-logo-black.pngThe review, which was conducted in Autumn 2012, identifies a number of examples of good practice. These include the School's approach to staff development, which allows staff in new roles to work with and learn from more experienced colleagues, and the fact that all grades of academic staff undertake teaching in order for the School's world-class research activity to inform and enhance student learning.
The review highlights the positive ways in which the diverse student body feeds into support networks, in both face-to-face and distance learning provision, encouraged and facilitated by the School. The report also contains some recommendations for improvements and the School will be producing an action plan to address these in the coming weeks. Overall, the Agency concludes that the School's academic standards, the quality and enhancement of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of its information about learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.
Sharon Huttly, Dean of Studies at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: "We are delighted to receive this favourable report. Our students are right at the centre of what we do, and we look forward to working with the Student Representative Council to take forward the report's recommendations."
Professor Peter Piot, the School's Director said: "This is excellent news and a strong endorsement of the quality of our teaching programme. The School is widely recognised as a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education, and it is vital that all our students, whether in London or from around the world, receive the best possible quality of teaching and support. This outcome reflects a great deal of hard work by staff across the School to continue to improve our teaching and support of student learning."
