Kidney disease is often asymptomatic until a person has complete kidney failure, and even then presents with unspecific symptoms which may be attributed to other diseases. Therefore awareness and recognition of kidney disease is generally poor. This talk discusses what is known about kidney disease at a population level in developed countries, challenges for carrying out kidney disease research, and touches on ongoing and planned collaborative research in LMIC.
