Soft drink prices, consumption, BMI and diabetes: evidence from a panel of 78 countries during 1999-2008
Abstract: The existing evidence on the effect of soft drink consumption, as well as of soft drink prices on overweight/diabetes, is still far from being conclusive. It also suffers from numerous methodological problems, and in particular would benefit from more research based on longitudinal data. In this paper, we utilize several different panel datasets, attempting to find out how the consumption of soft drinks, as well as prices for them, are related to the BMI, overweight, obesity and diabetes in 78 countries.
