My work is on health systems and implementation research, using mixed-methods. My particular interest is in the design and evaluation of health systems strategies to ensure sustained access to essential medicines for chronic illness in low-income and conflict-affected settings.

Teaching
I am module organiser for Conflict & Health and a tutor for MSc students. I also currently supervise three Research Degree students working on different aspects of health systems and access to care and medicines for chronic illness.
Research
I currently hold a UKRI Future Research Leader Fellowship to study the health systems factors affecting implementation of fixed dose combination therapy for hypertension and cardiovascular disease. This work is focused in Kenya and is a partnership with KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, the Kenya Ministry of Health, and the Kenyan Cardiac Society.
Prior to the UKRI Fellowship, I completed a Wellcome Trust Fellowship to study the impact of health care and medicine costs on healthcare- seeking and risk of impoverishment among households with cardiovascular disease in South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. I was also co-Investigator on an implementation research project to understand patient, health worker and policy-maker experiences of a new model of hypertension care in Kenya, and a study of mental health care utilisation and expenditure among Syrian refugees in Lebanon. I have previously conducted health services research in Kenya, Ukraine, the Republic of Georgia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and India and have worked with various international organisations, including WHO, UNHCR and Médecins Sans Frontières.
I am Co-Director of the Centre for Global Chronic Conditions and Associate Editor of the journal Conflict & Health.
