Many of our research collaborations include a strong element of capacity strengthening and opportunities for both partners to learn from each other; however, we also contribute to more specific capacity strengthening projects such as the DELTAS consortia.
Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science (DELTAS) consortia
The School is a full or associate partner in seven capacity strengthening consortia supported by the Wellcome Trust’s Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science (DELTAS) programme and led by or including 16 different African partners:
- Training Health Researchers into Vocational Excellence in East Africa -2 (THRiVE-2)
- Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL)
- African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI)
- Sub-Saharan African Consortium for Advanced Biostatistical Training (SSACAB)
- West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP)
- Makerere University/UVRI Infection and Immunity Research Training Programme (MUII-plus)
- Malaria Research Capacity Development in West and Central Africa (MARCAD)
Capacity Strengthening Research Degree Scheme (CSRD)
The CSRD scheme enables staff at 15 long-standing partner institutions, including 13 in sub-Saharan Africa, to register for a LSHTM PhD degree while carrying out the major part or whole of their degree research at the partner institution site.
