The rise of populist movements in Europe and globally has come hand in hand with a rise in anti-vaccination rhetoric, climate change denial, and other narratives that dismiss scientific consensus. Medical populism thrives by politicising and simplifying complex public health issues and by pitting ‘the people’ against ‘the establishment’ or ‘dangerous outsiders’. But how can we rebuild trust in expertise? How big of a threat does populism pose to global health? Can populism be harnessed to benefit public health? Join us at the Global Health Lab to find out!
