Dr Aduragbemi Banke-Thomas, Co-Director of MARCH, and Dr Hannah Blencowe, Deputy Director of MARCH, discuss the importance of advancing research to inform action to improve maternal and newborn health worldwide.

MARCH researchers are working to understand the causes of mothers and babies dying around the world, including stillbirths, as well as the impacts this can have. They are also working to develop and test innovative solutions to improve the lives of pregnant women and their babies.

On World Health Day, 7 April 2025, the World Health Organization launched the year-long campaign “healthy beginnings, hopeful futures,” which focuses on ramping up efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths and stillbirths.
