The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will hold its first high-level meeting on tuberculosis on 26 September 2018. The theme of the meeting is “United to end tuberculosis: an urgent global response to a global epidemic” and Heads of State are expected to attend and endorse a bold political declaration on TB that will accelerate investments and action to end TB.

The TB Centre at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is actively involved in the network of UK Academics & Professionals to End TB, a group of academics and clinicians who work together to ensure that research into the causes and treatment of TB are at the top of the meeting’s agenda.

Members of our Centre have been meeting and writing to MPs to provide data on TB and details of the research conducted by UK institutions. For details on how to get involved, click here.

Anna Vassall, Rebecca Harris and Titus Divala, from the TB Centre, joined other colleagues from the network in the Civil Society Hearing which took place on 4 June 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York. This meeting was an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input ahead of the General Assembly and you can learn more here.

The network of UK Academics & Professionals to End TB is also coordinating a letter to the Prime Minister to urge her to attend the high-level meeting.
