Donation of 34 beds and mattresses to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare

On Monday 25th June 2018, MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM donated 34 hospital beds and mattresses to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Joan Vives Tomas Director of Operations talked about the long standing relationship between MRCG at LSHTM and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. He said the donation of the beds is a small gesture towards the development of the health system in The Gambia. ‘Health care is our priority and MRCG at LSHTM will continue to collaborate with the Ministry to improve the system’ he stated. Abake Williams, Head of Finance and Procurement reiterated the relationship between the two institutions and urged the Ministry to distribute the items to the areas of priority.

In receiving the items on behalf of the Ministry, Balla Jatta National Surveillance Officer Disease and Control at the Central Medical Stores, thanked MRCG at LSHTM for the donation. According to Balla Jatta, the items will help bridge the need gap in the medical field. He said the Ministry has already prepared a distribution list and will ensure that all the beds will be delivered to their targeted health facilities.
