The MRC Unit The Gambia (MRCG), is internationally recognised for delivering excellent global health research in Africa and beyond. Building on these achievements, for the next 5 years, MRCG will be launching the 2016-2021 Quinquennial (5 year strategic plan) on the 1 April 2016 at 11am at our main site in Fajara.
For almost 70 years, MRCG has tackled major infectious diseases of global public health importance in sub Saharan Africa. Its research outputs have informed the implementation of public health interventions that have had (and continue to have) a major impact on the health of the local populations, in The Gambia, in other West African countries and beyond.MRCG’s scientific vision is to contribute to the post-2015 sustainable development agenda by producing evidence base research to improve health in West Africa and beyond. More specifically, MRCG’s will:

1. Contribute to the control and elimination of infectious diseases of public health importance in West Africa and sub‐Saharan Africa;
2. Address the unacceptably high burden of maternal and neonatal mortality;
3. Design and implement next generation interventions against nutrition-related diseases through discovery science;
4. Strengthen research on non-communicable diseases, particularly on those associated with infections.

As part of the programme, the new MRCG video will be unveiled. The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Government officials, collaborators and partners, including the British Ambassador, are expected to attend the significant occasion.

To mark the launch, the meeting will be published in local newspapers and aired on Gambia Radio and Television Services.
