The Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) visit to assess The Unit’s compliance to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 15189:2012 took place from 8 to 9 March 2017. The outcome of the visit was successful, as it recommends that The Unit maintains its accreditation status.
This visit is the second surveillance assessment by KENAS after being accredited to ISO 15189 on 10th July 2015, which saw MRCG accredited to a globally recognised standard acceptable in over 80 different countries across the world.

The 2017 follow-up visit was an opportunity for a third party to assess the Quality Management System (QMS) and the routine laboratories for compliance with the ISO 15189 international standard. While aiming for the highest quality standard, it was also an opportunity for areas of improvement to be identified to elevate The Unit’s QMS. The greater scope of this assessment lied within the Quality Department and the routine laboratories. However, support departments which include Archives, Biomedical Engineering, Procurement, Health Safety & Environment departments were also visited or members of their departments interviewed.

At the end of the two-day assessment, it can be proudly reported that the assessors were impressed and satisfied with The Unit’s performance. According to the assessors “MRCG is in the top 5 list of laboratories assessed by KENAS. Overall to a large extent MRCG meets the ISO standard.”
