Haddijatou Mbye is one of the pioneers of MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM PhD fellows funded by the Wellcome Trust- DELTAS (Developing Excellence in Leadership Training and Science) project at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP).
She is enrolled at the department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, University of Ghana. Her PhD research is focused on mechanisms of antimalarial drug resistance in African Plasmodium falciparum populations under the supervision of Dr Alfred Amambua-Ngwa Principal Investigator MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM Malaria Population Biology Group. Haddijatou is currently developing a new deployable phenotypic assays suitable for drug sensitivity testing in remote resource poor settings across sites involved in the Human Hereditary and Health project (H3Africa-PAMGEN). Her novel data on phenotypes and genotypes associated with antimalarial drug resistance earned her a travel award to participate and present at the 11th H3Africa consortium meeting held in Uganda from 21st to 25th March 2018.

At the H3Africa-PAMGEN meeting in Uganda, Haddijatou won the best poster presentation and an outstanding oral presentation prizes. Her goal is to continue to build a scientific career and contribute towards the improvement of health and wellbeing in developing countries. Her vision is to continue to promote and motivate the drive for more women in science in Africa.
