MRC Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (MRCG at LSHTM) opened its doors to showcase the achievements of our young scientists through the MRC Festival on Wednesday 20th June 2018. The event created a unique platform to showcase the achievements of the unit’s scientists as well as being an opportunity for our collaborators to explore our research activities through interactive demonstrations and innovative infographics.
Over 200 local and international collaborators attended including representatives from The Gambia Government, the British High Commissioner Sharon Warden, US Ambassador Patricia Alsup, religious leaders, community elders and university students.
Dembo Kanteh, West Africa Coordinator delivered the welcoming remarks and thanked the participants for their continued support to MRCG at LSHTM. Mafugi Dibba Senior Administrator, Research Training and Career Development gave a detailed overview on staff development and training opportunities provided by MRCG at LSHTM to staff and students.
In his closing remarks, Unit Director Professor Umberto D’Alessandro thanked collaborators for attending the 3rd annual MRC Festival and encouraged everyone to visit all stations and to ask questions. “My hope is that this festival will help you to learn a little more about what we do so that we can all work more closely together in The Gambia and West Africa to save lives and improve health across the world” concluded Professor Umberto D’Alessandro.
As part of activities, collaborators were taken on a poster presentation tour which highlighted research activities our three themes.
