Think TB - Teachers Pilot Training

On Tuesday 11th November 2018, MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM organised a pilot training workshop for the teachers at Methodist Academy Senior Secondary School. This was part of the sensitization program to equip the teachers ahead of the Think TB engagement workshop organized for the students. The training focused on symptoms of TB, how the disease spreads, availability of free treatment and what can be achieved when TB medications are taken as prescribed by health workers according to the National TB Treatment Guideline. In addition, the teachers and students will serve as TB Ambassadors to sensitize their communities about TB control in The Gambia.

The training was an opportunity to test run the workshop materials amongst the teachers, adapting the training materials to suit the level of the students. The exercise equally led to the appointment of volunteer teaching staff who will be responsible for utilising the materials in the school to conduct similar workshop with the students in lower classes. This school engagement was sponsored by the Public Engagement Small Grants Scheme of LSHTM
