24 March 2020

On 23rd March 2020, we tested a third positive case of COVID-19 in The Gambia. The patient has been moved from their residence in Basse, where they were self-isolating, and is currently isolated at our specialist clinic in Fajara. We wish them well in their recovery.

We are supporting the Ministry of Health to rapidly identify any contacts the patient had. Those identified as close contacts will be given health advice and tested in line with Ministry of Health procedures.

As we confirm this third case, we urge the general public to strongly follow the World Health Organization guidance on coronavirus control, including washing your hands regularly with soap and water, blowing your nose/sneeze into a tissue, and avoiding crowds as much as possible.

Anyone who feels ill or observes COVID-19 symptoms should immediately contact the national helpline by calling 1025 from any network, free of charge.
