Established in 1947, and supported by the Medical Research Council UK through UK government funding, the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM is now part of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine which operates under the Royal Charter signed by Her Majesty.
The MRCG at LSHTM hosted Prince Charles as part of his visit to The Gambia in November 2018. This year, students in the Unit won the top prize in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Student Challenge for their innovative recycling solution.
On behalf of the MRCG at LSHTM, Unit Director Professor Umberto D’Alessandro has sent condolences to the British High Commissioner in The Gambia.
He said “We extend our sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the British High Commission in The Gambia, the Commonwealth and the people of the United Kingdom for the loss of Her Majesty The Queen. We share our thoughts and deepest sympathies as you mourn this irreplaceable loss. She will be greatly missed”.
