importance of the Hepatitis B birth dose
Vaccination is the cornerstone for preventing mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B. The WHO has recommended the administration of a birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine to all newborns within 24 hours of birth. To date, only 14 African countries have adopted this and only 18% of babies born in Africa receive a timely birth dose vaccine.
