Two of the Unit’s senior scientists have been recognized for their contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Prof. Pontiano Kaleebu, the Unit Director and Head of the Basic Sciences Programme and Prof. Anatoli Kamali, the Deputy Director and Head of HIV Epidemiology and Prevention Programme were among the select Ugandan scientists that were recognized as part of the 2016 Heroes’ Day celebrations.
The list of 16 Scientists titled, “Medical Heroes at the frontline of the AIDS fight”, which appeared in the national Daily, The New Vision, included among others Joint Clinical Research Centre’s (JCRC) Prof. Peter Mugenyi; Rakai Health Services’ Prof. David Serwadda; Makerere University’s Prof. Nelson Sewankambo and The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) founder Dr. Noerine Kaleeba.
