Educational/professional background

I am born and raised in Hong Kong, and have completed the first two years of my medical degree (MBBS) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). I have joined LSHTM studying for the MSc Control of Infectious Diseases this year as an intercalating medical student.

Research interests or career goals

My interest in the control of infectious disease stemmed from a preceptor visit as a medical student during the COVID-19 pandemic. Observing my preceptor’s exchange with his patients, I identified a general reluctance among patients to obtain COVID-19 vaccines. With a piqued interest in this topic, I proceeded to conduct personal research on vaccine hesitancy, and gained insight into the reasons leading to this situation. Apart from being an aspiring clinician, my goal is to participate in public health policy research with an interest in vaccine policy evaluation of infectious diseases in the future.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I chose to study the MSc CID programme as it has a nice balance between lab-based scientific knowledge and public health policy knowledge. The course was specific enough to provide in-depth knowledge while giving me the space to explore beyond my interests.

As an international student, I am also happy to advise on settling in LSHTM and London in general as a non-local.
