Educational/professional background
My educational background started with my undergraduate degree in Geography at the University of Nottingham, where I gained a keen interest in population health and spatial epidemiology. I then started my MSc Demography & Health at LSHTM in September 2018, following which I was offered a place on the Civil Service Fast Stream as a Social Researcher.
Since then, I have held two roles in Government – firstly as a researcher in the Department for Education, working primarily on projects surrounding pupil’s learning loss and catch-up as a result of school closures caused by COVID-19. Today, I work for the Department of Health and Social Care, as an Epidemiologist.
What I enjoyed most about studying my programme at LSHTM
I loved the broad range of analytical tools my master’s equipped me to deal with – from qualitative social research methods to the quantitative and numerical skill sets required in epidemiology and demography. I met some fantastic and enthusiastic tutors, as well as making some amazing friends.
What I have been doing since graduating
Since graduating I’ve exclusively worked within the for the UK Civil Service, across two different Departments – working primarily on COVID-related issues. It’s been fantastic working at the forefront of such a large public health issue.
