Educational/professional background
I am a surgical resident working and studying from Nanjing, China. After completing my undergraduate medical degree, I worked in Mauritius as a general practitioner for 3 years. I have also worked as a tutor in a medical college before pursuing my specialisation in general surgery.
Research interests or career goals
When working in Mauritius, I realised the lack of evidence-based health policy that adversely affects healthcare services and the health system. I hope to combine my medical experience with global health policy to focus on health policy-making in developing countries. I am particularly interested in health system governance, which is also the topic of my MSc project.
Why I chose LSHTM
The MSc Global Health Policy by distance learning is well suited for my career goals. As I wanted to work and gain experience in various health systems worldwide, the flexibility of the course allowed me to do so without taking any break. With the wide range of elective modules available from different departments, I have been able to choose the electives according to areas that matched my career goals. I have also been very satisfied with the dedication of the module coordinators to better our learning experience.
