Educational/professional background
I am a medical doctor with experience working across five countries with both high-income and low-resource settings. I earned my medical degree with distinction from the University of Baghdad, served as a clinician in both the public and private sectors of Iraq, and pursued my MSc Public Health for Eye Care as a Chevening scholar.
During my master's, I was elected as the president of the Students Representatives' Council and a member of the Council and its Governance Committees, which further enriched my journey.
What I enjoyed most about studying my programme/at LSHTM:
Definitely the people. LSHTM has the most incredible faculty and student body that I’m incredibly grateful to have crossed paths with. Its courses and assignments have challenged and motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and I still work on research projects through the skills, knowledge, and mentorship I was fortunate to get at LSHTM.
What I have been doing since graduating
I was selected for a diploma in Policy and Leadership at the American University of Sharjah in the UAE, and a fellowship in Global Health Entrepreneurship with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the University of Columbia. I also worked with Cross headquarters in Geneva to help deliver primary healthcare to 34 million people globally and was selected as one of five regional representatives for the Youth Advisory Group of the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre. I continued my clinical and academic work and have been fortunate to do clinical attachments and work on research projects with the Mayo Clinic, the Houston Methodist Hospital, and other leading academic institutes and teams globally.

It's been years since I concluded my journey at LSHTM, but it is still my dream institute. It has wonderfully changed my life and widened my horizons in ways I did not imagine were possible and I believe you can find your place here too.
