Contact Joyce WongEducational/professional background
I am a medical doctor from Hong Kong with experience in the public hospital system. My clinical experience focused on providing hospital-based internal medicine care for a geriatric-dominant population. In medical school, I participated in multiple health intervention programmes and was particularly interested in improving public health programmes in underprivileged areas.
Research interests or career goals
My work experience helped me understand the limitations and inefficiencies of the public hospital system. This sparked my interest in health economics, particularly in how economic evaluation can be applied to health policy to make our public health systems more equitable and efficient.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose LSHTM for its phenomenal reputation as a leading public health institution and for the school's incredible staff and research. The diversity of the student community also stood out as an excellent opportunity to learn from peers from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. The public health programme is unique in allowing students an option to choose a specialization, allowing me to tailor my experience based on my research interests.
