Educational/professional background
University of Warwick, BSc Biomedical Science
I am currently a science tutor and have lots of experience teaching a range of age groups.
Research interests or career goals
My main interests are in bacteriology and antimicrobial resistance. I also have a keen interest in molecular biology and bioinformatics. Going forward, I am pursuing a career in research, particularly on AMR pathogens, and how we can unlock new pathways towards novel treatments by first picking apart their genome and cellular biology!
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
LSHTM is unique because we emphasise the real-world application of our research. Coming from a lab-based background, I often found myself getting lost in the seclusion of the lab. However, this degree sets itself apart because I feel part of a wider, multi-disciplinary and inclusive community. I’m consistently motivated by passionate scientists in a space where I genuinely feel I’m receiving the best training in the world to produce my own beneficial research.
Extra information
MSc Medical Microbiology is one of the smaller cohorts so you might feel intimidated or that you might be overlooked. However, the school is so supportive, and you’ll get plenty of opportunities to meet other lab-based degree students or even the wider student body!
