Contact Maria Victoria DreherEducational/professional background
I graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Science from York University (Toronto). During my undergrad I was very interested in virology and immunology, but also in chemistry and biochem. I worked in a Chemistry lab for 2 years and realized chemistry was cool but not what I wanted. Since early in this pandemic, I’ve been working with a science podcast as a Science Communicator, delivering accessible information to more than 140k followers on a daily basis.
Research interests or career goals
I want to combine my love and knowledge about infectious disease, control of infectious disease and epidemiology with my public health and science communicator passion. I am very interested in STIs and HIV and hope to eventually combine my science communication love with STI and HIV knowledge.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose LSHTM because of its prestigious reputation, ground-breaking research and professors. LSHTM was always my dream school, and I am so proud to be part of it. I chose Infectious Disease because I always loved immunology and virology, but in my last year of undergrad I found a passion in epidemiology and public health. I wanted to combine it and get the best out of it. Not only that, but I finished my undergrad online due to COVID, so I knew the distance learning wouldn't be a challenge, the real challenge would be moving to London during a pandemic, so the DL was the best option for me.
I moved to Canada when I was 18 and completed my undergrad here, but I grew up in Brazil, so feel free to reach out to me in Portuguese as well.
