Educational/professional background
I graduated from the University of Rochester in May 2024 with a BA in Epidemiology and minors in Biology and Classical Civilization. I have worked on a range of projects from investigating the psychological and physiological effects of child maltreatment for emerging adults, applying principles of community engagement to the opioid epidemic through harm reduction techniques, and developing health resources for university students.
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in the application of community engagement principles to the control of infectious disease. I hope to work as an epidemiologist for outbreaks and go on to get my PhD in order to conduct research on the intersection of outbreak epidemiology and community engagement.
Why I chose LSHTM / my programme
I choose LSHTM because of the diversity and wealth of resources the school offers. The MSc Control of Infectious Diseases program builds on my background in epidemiology and gives me the specific skillset to tackle outbreak situations. I also appreciate the flexibility to tailor modules to my research goals and the support of personal tutors to guide our experience at LSHTM. The CID cohort is smaller which promotes a wonderful sense of community and the opportunity to discuss content with lecturers one-to-one.
