Educational/professional background

I am an intercalating medical student from the University of Hong Kong studying the MSc Public Health for Eye Care

Research interests or career goals

I am interested in ophthalmology, particularly in the delicate parts of related surgery. Improving people’s eyesight is something I would like to do. In particular, I’m interested in improving children’s eyesight, as it is particularly important during children's development. I would also like to contribute to the policy making of eye care, to make an impact on more people’s lives.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

Last summer, I participated in a program which helped over 100 children have their eyes checked for free in Hong Kong. It was exciting as I had the opportunity to operate the IOL master on their eyes. While I have always had a keen interest in ophthalmology, be it in clinical or laboratory settings, the experience made me ponder on the more macro perspective of it. I wish to take LSHTM’s Public Health in Eye Care to enhance my understanding of how to reduce blindness and visual disability in the population, so I can contribute more to society more comprehensively for the prevention of blindness. With LSHTM’s excellent professors and learning opportunities, I hope to equip myself with the skills to achieve my goals. It is also fascinating to exchange ideas with coursemates from all over the world, where I can gain a global perspective of public health issues.
