Having graduated, worked and lived as a medical doctor in areas with protracted conflicts, I have developed a deep interest in Humanitarian Work and a strong desire to deliver quality healthcare to those in need, especially, the most vulnerable. My current career is deeply embedded within public health practice. My long-term goal is to increase access to health for vulnerable populations that are evidence based and contextualized to the local setting.
What I enjoyed most about studying at LSHTM
While at LSHTM, I enjoyed and took full advantage of the various resources at the disposal of students as well as the unwavering support of the staff of the school. Walking through the entrance of the school along Keppel Street, up the stairs to the John Snow Lecture Theatre, passing by the replica of the famous pump-handle was always an excitement to me. Apart from the above, interacting and networking with other students from diverse backgrounds and nationalities gave me a different view of the world: we are all interconnected and belong to one race - the human race! Everything else is secondary. My favourite place was the library!
Since graduating I have been...
Currently I work as a Project Coordinator for the International Rescue Committee (IRC), an international non-governmental organisation (INGO), implementing a catch-up vaccination programme targeting zero-dose children across South Sudan, funded by Gavi. I coordinate the activities of 5 consortium partners and interact with various stakeholders including UN agencies to ensure high quality implementation of the project in reaching every child in humanitarian setting in some of the most challenging and hard-to-reach locations in the country. Prior to this assignment, I worked as a health consultant with UNICEF from May to August 2022, supporting the implementation of the Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness (CERHSP) Project funded by the World Bank through conducting supportive supervision to project sites, coordinating with stakeholders, mentorship, coaching and on-job training to clinical staff. Before joining UNICEF and immediately after completing my postgraduate study from LSHTM, I joined Medair (an INGO) to work in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from November 2019 to March 2022. I worked in the Ituri Province (Eastern DRC) supporting the implementation of primary health care services that included responding to emergencies such as plaque and the Ebola outbreaks and sudden population displacement.
