Educational/professional background

I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a BSc Global Resource Systems. I had an extremely interdisciplinary degree, taking courses in nutrition, public health, international development, and anthropology. I’m a Research Assistant at the Center for Gender and Sexual Health Equity working to explore issues such as how food insecurity and other socio-structural factors impact the lives of women living with HIV in Vancouver, Canada. I am now studying MSc Nutrition for Global Health.

Research interests or career goals

Growing up as a first-generation Bangladeshi in Canada, I hope to go into research and academia to understand and develop solutions to the wellbeing and health challenges of women in the diaspora, particularly iron deficiency anemia, food insecurity, and chronic health-related diseases.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine has been referred to by many as the “Mecca” of public health and research. Not only is it one of the few MSc programs I have come across that offers a public/global health nutrition stream, I wanted to tap into the opportunities, resources, and networks that would provide me with the knowledge and skills to enter the world of academia and global health research.
