I completed my BS in biology at Northeastern Illinois University in the USA. I worked as a medical assistant for COVID response and later switched to working in dermatology at NorthShore University HealthSystem. My clinical experience influenced my interests in the research of non-communicable diseases, which is what led me to pursue a degree in Epidemiology at LSHTM.
What I enjoyed most about studying my programme/at LSHTM
My favorite aspect of being a part of LSHTM is the friendships and connections that are made through the program. Meeting people who have lived in different parts of the world and have had different work experiences prior to the program made learning an extra special and unique experience. The studies were also exactly what I wanted to get out of the program because they aligned with my career transition from clinic to research. Coming from a clinical background, most of the concepts taught were completely new to me. Despite finding the program a bit challenging at first, my LSHTM family were more than supportive and was always there for me to reach out for support. I feel so lucky to have been a part of this community and made life-long friends.
What I have been doing since graduating
Since graduating from LSHTM with my MSc Epidemiology in 2023, I have started a position at the University of Surrey as a Research Fellow in health data science. The project I am working on is funded by Breast Cancer Now and involves the use of UK primary healthcare data to investigate the burden of inequalities on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
