Cephas Avoka

Cephas Avoka

A theme liaison

I’m a Chevening Scholar currently studying for a Masters Reproductive and Sexual Health Research at LSHTM. My background is as a medical doctor with experience in rural health policy and practice in Ghana spanning 4 years. During that time, I’ve created protocols and strategies that have improved health access and financing for women and children in hospitals.

I’ve been an advocate for Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights since 2012 and during this time I’ve worked with Ipas to develop a training manual on safe abortion advocacy for youth, started my own organization (shyOUT) in 2015, and work with other youth groups to promote contraceptive education, utilizing digital innovations. Currently, I’m involved in an online consultation with UNESCO on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in digital spaces aimed at developing/leveraging on online platforms to provide CSE to adolescents especially.

I’m an active member of the Ipas Ghana Youth Advisory Board and a Women Deliver Young Leader, where I advocate for gender equality and women's rights. Most recently, I completed a six-week Leadership in Public Management program in Arizona State University as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship.
