Centre For Evaluation Retreat

Improving global health practice through evaluation
Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November

The 2016 LSHTM Centre for Evaluation Retreat and AGM will be held in London on 10th and 11th November 2016 (during reading week). All LSHTM staff and research degree students who are members of the Centre for Evaluation are invited to attend. (If you have not joined the Centre yet, simply send an email to evaluation@lshtm.ac.uk with I would like to join the Centre for Evaluation in the title box.)

Programme

10th November:

This will be a full day focussed on a range of topics within Evaluation, including “the role of evaluation in policy development”, “assessing context and its influence on outcomes” and “opportunistic evaluations of programmes and systems”. There will be lots of time for discussion and it will end with a keynote speaker followed by drinks and canapés. It will be held at Prospero House in Borough.  The detailed agenda will be released in due course.

11th November:

This will be the Centre for Evaluation AGM for the morning only. It is aimed at all those who would like to contribute to the running and strategy of the Centre, with a particular focus on plans for the next year. It will be held in Jerry Morris A&B at Tavistock Place from 10am to 1pm.

Registration

Day 1 will be limited to 90 attendees, and Day 2 to those who would like to contribute to the Centre and its plans over the next year.

The cost for us to put on the retreat is about £100 per person and the Centre is seeking to find fair ways to maximise the cost-recovery. Several groups/departments have agreed to cover the cost of their staff to attend, so please contact your group/department head to see if this is the case. Otherwise, there are options to pay by debit/credit card.

However, places at the retreat are limited to 90 attendees and so first priority will go to those who are able to cover the £100 cost for their attendance. If more than 90 people are able to cover their costs, then priority will go to those who registered first.

If fewer than 90 people are able to cover their cost, then registration will be allocated to those who cannot cover their cost, in order of date of email received. Those who are unable to cover their cost will be notified if their registration was successful after the 1st November.

To register for the event please use this linkhttps://evaluationretreat2016.eventbrite.co.uk.

Applications for speed talks

We encourage applications from LSHTM staff and research degree students who would like to give a speed talk (strictly five minutes with 1-2 slides) on either of the following topics:

  1. Assessing context and its influence on outcomes
  2. Opportunistic evaluations of programmes and systems (using quasi-experimental methods in natural experiments)

If you would like to give one of these speed talks, please send an outline of up to 100 words in length to evaluation@lshtm.ac.uk with “2016 Retreat speed talks” in the subject line, including the name of the person who would give the speed talk. The deadline for submission is the end of August. Please feel free to email any questions toevaluation@lshtm.ac.uk, again with “2016 Retreat speed talks” in the subject line.

Many thanks and best wishes,

James Hargreaves

Director of the Centre for Evaluation
