Current issues in global health: Malaria​

This seminar hosted by the Malaria Centre will highlight some of the threats and challenges faced by the global malaria community in the battle to eliminate this deadly disease.

Great strides have been made in reducing global malaria transmission over the past 30 years but it remains one of the world’s most devastating diseases with the burden particularly high in sub-Saharan Africa. Whilst news of a WHO-recommended malaria vaccine was well-received in 2022, it seems unlikely to be a silver bullet for malaria elimination. Furthermore, other serious threats to malaria control are emerging, including increasing resistance in both humans and mosquitoes to malaria drugs and insecticides. This seminar hosted by the Malaria Centre will highlight some of the threats and challenges faced by the global malaria community in the battle to eliminate this deadly disease.
