Developing networks of health facilities for improving access to functioning emergency obstetric care at national scale: country experience in sub-Saharan Africa
In order to address the limited access to quality 24/7 emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) in most countries with a high burden of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has supported ten countries to develop a national network of referral maternity units.
These networks aim to balance the focus on a limited number of health facilities designated by the Ministry of Health to provide EmONC (feasibility criteria) with good geographical accessibility by most of the population within 2 hours travel time (population coverage criteria).
This webinar will use empirical evidence to discuss the work of UNPFA improving access to EmONC in Sub-Saharan Africa.
