Estimating the epidemiological and economic impact of scaling up a nutritional intervention for TB affected households across India

Exploring the impact of TB and undernutrition

TB Centre event card

Approximately 20% of global tuberculosis (TB) incidence is attributable to undernutrition, which increases risk of TB disease and TB death. We developed a transmission model of TB with explicit body mass index strata linked to disease progression and treatment outcomes. We used results from a recent trial of nutritional support to people with TB and their households to explore the epidemiological and economic implications of expanding the intervention to everyone treated for TB in India.

Rebecca Clark is a Research Fellow in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics at LSHTM. Her research is focussed on using mathematical modelling to evaluate the health and economic impacts of interventions to reduce the burden of tuberculosis, primarily of new vaccines and nutritional interventions. She has a PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from LSHTM.
