Evaluation of a capacity strengthening programme in Healthcare Responding to Violence and Abuse
A multi-country health system and service response project
The aim of Healthcare Responding to Violence and Abuse (HERA) is to develop and evaluate health systems interventions addressing violence against women in lower- and middle-income countries. This presentation will discuss findings from the qualitative component of a mixed methods evaluation examining HERA’s research capacity strengthening (RCS) programme.
We conducted interviews with HERA researchers at different academic career levels and from HERA’s five participating country teams: Brazil, Nepal, Palestine, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
We will present lessons learnt from the HERA researchers’ perceptions, experiences and participation in RCS. Our key themes include relationship dynamics, hierarchy and positionality, equity and power, sustainability, as well as the research practicalities of data, language and authorship. Building on these findings we will discuss how they can inform applied practices of accountability within research collaborations and the global research environment.
