Evaluation in Education:'new’ approaches, different perspectives, design challenges
In its short five-year life, the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) has funded 120 evaluations (94 cluster-randomised trials, 26 pilots) of interventions aiming to narrow the ‘attainment gap’ between pupils from deprived background and their peers. These constitute the vast majority of rigorous evaluations ever conducted to improve educational attainment in English schools. As the Evaluation Manager, Camilla Nevill has led the set-up of these evaluations, learning to balance the motivations of different parties to the evaluations while grappling with challenging design decisions. In this presentation, Camilla will draw on specific examples to address the importance of knowing your audience and of pragmatism in evaluation design.
The talk will be followed by a reception in the Tavistock Cafe.
