Friendship bench: Insights from grandmothers in a changing world
Since 2006, trained community grandmothers have provided evidence-based therapy for depression in communities across Zimbabwe and beyond from wooden park benches. Over 80,000 people have sat on a bench to talk to a grandmother, but with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the grandmothers have had to adopt different strategies to remain relevant. Some insights from the grandmothers about Black Lives Matter and decolonising global health will also be shared in this lecture.
